after the beach we searched for the water caves. which the lonely planet made seem suspiciously closer. fortunately we ran into lionel, who invited us to his home, gave us coconut water and pineapple, and guided us through a strenuous trail guajiro style (con chancletas!). he basically offered us a free tour as we were students. i did insist on giving him my grinnell running shorts, however.
