The main church in the old monastery (to the left of the frame here), dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is beautiful and precious beyond description, but falling down. Since this picture was taken, stones have been applied to the outside of the church.

To the right the north wing of the new monastery is visible. The old monastery (along with the church, to the left of the frame) was founded around 1550 by St. Damianos and friends and continuously occupied until 1889. The village people kept a priest in it until about 70 years ago; after that, it was deserted until some monks came in 1980 and started to build the new monastery, but they left again after three years.

Our sisters came for the first time in July of 2000 in search of a place to summer the animals, and stayed. They have finished the building the monks started and constructed the church, a stable, and a major addition that houses two kitchens (one for cheese, the other for daily cooking), some excellent storage space, and five cells.
