X stabilimentum
Quite a few species of spiders build stabilimenta of varying sizes and shapes. One of the Manchester students devoted her research to investigating the relationship between age and stabilimentum style. Possible utility: keeps birds from messing them up, gives the illusion of greater body size, offsets the effect of the intense sunlight.
