Painting: SS Boland I'm not really happy with the pics of this painting (the river is brighter than in real life), but I thought I'd post shots of this painting anyway.
This painting was based on a photograph by Jim Hoffman (I've never taken a picture of the Boland). I chose it as a subject because the bow of the Boland makes it particularly difficult to paint. Why? Because the boat's (and lake ships are called 'boats' no matter their size) bow is a flat 'u' shape, meaning that any quarter shot from ahead of it is bound to make the hull look brickish.
Otherwise, I think the stylistic decisions I've made are obvious.
