2004.08.15-08.22 - First Trip to Iowa  -  The biggest family (my parents and I) trip we've ever taken. Took Amtrak to Sacromento, changed trains, and got off in Granby, CO, near Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park. We stayed there for two nights and explored the amazing (and amazingly windy) 11,000+-foot-high tundra near the continental divide. After a 7-hour delay at the quaint Granby train station, we hopped back on Amtrak for our trip to Omaha. A bit tired and frazzled, we stuffed all my baggage in a taxicab and changed to Greyhound. After a short ride to Des Moines, Dad and I took the city bus to the airport, where we rented a car. We stayed in a hotel in Newton before going to the college in Grinnell. I moved into my room and did NSO activities, and my parents visited my mom's cousin Peggy (and family) in Maquoketa. It was a fun trip, but I think we were ready to go our separate ways by the end. ;)
